Air-to-water heat pumps extract heat from the outside air and use it to warm your home and hot water — producing 3 to 4 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity consumed. That efficiency ratio makes them far cheaper to run than a gas boiler, even accounting for the higher unit cost of electricity.
The Irish government's SEAI Heat Pump Grant covers up to €6,500 of the supply and installation cost. Additional grants are available for heat pump controls (up to €700), radiator upgrades (up to €500), and ventilation works (up to €1,500).
